Statement on the passing of Charlie Kirk

11 September 2025

Turning Point Australia share our deepest condolences with the family of Charlie Kirk and America, who today have tragically lost a shining light in the passing of Charlie Kirk.

National Director of Turning Point Australia, Joel Jammal, said, “Our society is on a knife’s edge, and people need to tone down their rhetoric and stick to the contest of ideas.”

“Charlie Kirk was brave and committed to fighting battles through discourse rather than violence.” Mr Jammal said. “I am reminded of a quote by Charlie: ‘When discourse ends, violence begins.’ Today, we unfortunately witnessed the tragedy that unfolds when that happens.”

Turning Point Australia owes a great debt to Charlie and could not have been as impactful as it has been without his vision and guidance. His legacy will live on in all of us around the world who have been touched by his wisdom and will continue the work that he started.

“Violence is never the answer to political disagreement and diminishes the very principles that democracy is built on,” said Mr Jammal. “Charlie’s life’s work shows us that if your ideas need violence to be accepted by others, then they’re not the right ideas.”

There will be a vigil to honour the memory and legacy of Charlie Kirk on Friday, 12 September, starting at 6pm in Hyde Park, Sydney, near the north fountain. All are welcome to attend and pay their respects to the memory of Charlie Kirk.
